The new boat makes extensive use of carbon fiber, with this 2017 model shedding more than 1,300 pounds over the last Merc-Merc (Mercedes-Mercury) boat, thanks to lighter materials. The deck, consoles, engine hatch and the cockpit are all made from carbon fiber with foam core.
Interior accommodations are rich in carbon fiber, and offer more room than the AMG GT R.
When it comes to paint and detailing, these elements were designed by Daimler AG chief design officer Gorden Wagener, making use of the Green Hell Magno paint borrowed from the AMG GT R while the patterned inserts for the seats were created by the AMG Performance Studio.
“The 2017 50-foot Marauder AMG is a particularly striking result of our continued collaboration with the Cigarette Racing Team, a fitting tribute to honor 10 years of working together,” said Gorden Wagener. “One racing icon has inspired another, and we are proud to continue to set the benchmark and seamlessly combine design and performance both on land and on the sea.”
While the price of this one-off boat is being kept quiet — it’s available upon request — the road-going Mercedes-AMG GT R will be much more affordable when it goes on sale this spring. But the boat does have plenty of room for five, so if you’re torn between the boat and the snug coupe, take that into account.
Pricing for the GT R has not been announced, either, but it is expected to be in the neighborhood of $200,000, up from the mere $111,200 for the AMG GT. Either version will be powerful enough to tow the Marauder AMG — not that that’s a good idea, considering the light weight of the cars themselves.
